The Dallas Stars scored three times in the second period and got a 26-save shutout from Jake Oettinger in a 4-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday at KeyBank Center. ESPN noted it was Oettinger's second shutout in a row.
Mikko Rantanen was in on all four goals, scoring one and assisting on the other three. Wyatt Johnston had three assists.
Jason Robertson opened the scoring with a snap shot at 9:03 of the first period, assisted by Rantanen and Johnston. Dallas then broke the game open in the middle frame: Sam Steel scored at 9:36 off assists from Thomas Harley and Rantanen, Rantanen buried a backhand at 13:57 with Nils Lundkvist and Johnston assisting, and Roope Hintz converted on the power play at 15:34, set up by Johnston and Rantanen.
The third period was scoreless.
