Denton’s Texas Woman’s University is taking its anniversary celebration to Dallas, where a State Fair exhibit traces 125 years of the institution’s history.
“Blazing New Trails: 125 Years of Texas Woman’s University” opened Sept. 25 at the Hall of State. The fair runs through Oct. 18, and its official schedule lists the Hall of State exhibits as open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The display draws on TWU’s Special Collections and University Archives. Visitors can see early university records, photographs, campus publications, clothing and other artifacts showing how student life and opportunities for women changed over time. Materials from the Women Airforce Service Pilots archive and the university’s cookbook collection are also featured.
Founded in 1901 as Girls Industrial College, the institution opened in Denton in 1903. The exhibit connects that beginning with its later work in education, healthcare and public service.
