Denton residents tracing their family history can attend a free day of genealogy workshops Friday, Oct. 16, at Emily Fowler Central Library or join the presentations from home.

Family History Day runs from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the library, 502 Oakland St. Participants can attend selected workshops rather than commit to the full day, according to the library’s Sept. 26 announcement.

The program includes eight recorded presentations streamed for the event. Topics range from building a digital family archive and getting started in genealogy to oral history, Scottish ancestry and Texas research resources. In-person visitors can also get one-on-one research help and tour Special Collections. An after-hours research and collaboration session concludes the day.

Denton Public Library and the Denton County Genealogical Society are hosting the event with other Texas libraries and genealogy groups. It was previously called the Lock-In.

Registration is required for both in-person and virtual participation. The library’s announcement links to its event calendar and lists 940-349-8749 for questions.
