Denton Police and Fire are scheduled to run a Drone as First Responder pilot from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, 2026, according to the city’s program information.

The trial will use Skydio X10 DFR aircraft operated by officers and firefighters on Denton’s existing drone team. Rather than being carried to an incident before launch, the aircraft will wait in powered docking stations so they can be deployed quickly.

The city says the goal is to give responders information about a scene while they are on the way. The drones will fly to specific 911 calls; they will not patrol neighborhoods or replace an in-person police or fire response.

Residents can use the transparency dashboard linked from the city’s program FAQ to review flight paths and other flight data.

Denton’s joint police and fire drone program began in 2022. The October trial expands how that equipment can be dispatched.
