Denton police arrested a 36-year-old man on charges of driving while intoxicated and possessing an open container after responding to a vehicle crash at the intersection of Airport Road and South Bonnie Brae Street. The incident occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m. on Thursday.
According to a police report, one of the drivers involved in the collision told officers that the suspect appeared intoxicated. The witness stated the man was falling over and repeating himself. Officers corroborated these observations, noting that the suspect smelled of alcohol, spoke incoherently, swayed, and struggled to stand still.
The suspect claimed to officers that he was en route to pick up the other driver involved in the crash. However, police stated that the man did not know the other driver and that his account of the accident did not align with the facts. The report indicates that the suspect’s vehicle struck the rear driver’s side of the other vehicle.
During the investigation, officers observed the suspect having difficulty completing field sobriety tests. They determined he displayed enough clues to indicate intoxication. Additionally, police found an open container holding an alcoholic beverage inside the suspect’s vehicle.
The man was transported to a hospital for a blood draw before being taken into custody. Neither driver involved in the crash was reported to have sustained injuries.
