Jose Luis Alvarez Williams, 37, was arrested on a warrant accusing him of concealing a recording device in a bathroom at his downtown Denton business. The 37-year-old owner of Pepe Le Barbershop, located at 721 S. Elm St., faces one charge of invasive visual recording. His arrest took place at the police headquarters on Thursday afternoon.
The case originated from a report filed by an employee on Aug. 3. According to the police report, the woman was working her first shift at the shop when she entered the unisex restroom, which serves both staff and customers. She discovered a box of latex gloves inside a cabinet that had a cutout.
Upon opening the box, she found a smartphone with its camera lens positioned through the opening. She provided officers with photographs of the device and noted that the phone case matched one belonging to Alvarez Williams.
The employee stated that she confronted Alvarez Williams about the object. He did not admit to placing it there intentionally, but his demeanor changed, and he appeared ashamed. Following the incident, the woman left the job. She told investigators that Alvarez Williams later called her to apologize, though he did not explicitly admit to recording people in the bathroom.
During the initial questioning, Alvarez Williams denied involvement. Investigators reported that he eventually admitted to recording in the bathroom on one or two occasions, claiming he had deleted the footage. He subsequently acknowledged that he had recorded individuals in the restrooms on multiple occasions. A magistrate issued a probable-cause warrant based on these findings.
