Denton police officers detained three men on Thursday evening after responding to a report of individuals with firearms at a local apartment complex. The incident began around 9:46 p.m. when dispatchers sent officers to the 2400 block of East McKinney Street.
Upon arrival, law enforcement observed a group of men exiting the complex and entering a vehicle. Officers pursued the car to the 1600 block of East McKinney Street, where they initiated a traffic stop. Two occupants, a 22-year-old driver and a 19-year-old passenger, stayed at the scene. An 18-year-old passenger, however, fled the vehicle on foot.
A search of the vehicle revealed a firearm and marijuana in the area where the 18-year-old had been seated. When officers returned to the apartment complex, they located the 18-year-old inside one of the units. The report indicates that multiple firearms and other contraband were found at the apartment location.
The 18-year-old was booked into the city jail facing charges for evading arrest or detention, unlawful carrying of a weapon, and possession of less than two ounces of marijuana. The 19-year-old passenger was arrested based on an active warrant from the University of North Texas Police Department for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.
The 22-year-old driver was also taken into custody on a charge of driving without a license.
