Denton is preparing for one of its busiest weekends of the year, featuring a diverse array of cultural, automotive, and community events. The Denton Arts & Jazz Festival returns this Friday through Sunday, marking the first time the event is held at the North Texas Fairgrounds at 2217 N. Carroll Blvd. The three-day celebration includes five stages of music across the venue.
FemmeFest runs concurrently from Thursday to Sunday, offering drag, drag king, and burlesque performances at various locations including Andersons Distillery, The Bearded Monk, The Brown Thumb, Triptych Coffee, Harvest House, the Patterson Appleton Arts Center, and Dan's Silverleaf.
Arts & Autos takes over The Square on Friday and Saturday, featuring classic cars and community art projects. A pre-show called Art Car Alley occurs on Friday, followed by the main car show on Saturday. The event also includes the Lemonade Lane Kids Market and collaborations with other local gatherings.
On Saturday morning, the Dog Days of Denton begins at 9 a.m. at Quakertown Park, 515 N. Bell Ave. This free annual event features dog-themed vendors, contests, and swimming opportunities for dogs at the Civic Center Pool with an additional ticket. The event coincides with Arts & Autos, allowing attendees to visit Dogtopia.
Other Saturday activities include Theatre Denton's first-ever costume sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Theatre Denton Annex in the Golden Triangle Mall at 2201 S I-35 E. The Denton County Preparedness Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Denton County Office of Emergency Management, 3900 Morse St., offering information on emergency resources and free food.
At 2 p.m., author Kristin Kobes Du Mez will speak about her book "Live Laugh Love: The Secret History of White Christian Women and the World They Made" at First United Methodist Church Denton, 201 S. Locust St., followed by a signing.
