A barbecue restaurant from a former Bet the House BBQ co-owner, a doughnut bakery and a Pilates studio are among the businesses that have opened in and around Denton in recent weeks, according to the Denton Record-Chronicle's monthly roundup. The list also takes in Flower Mound, Lewisville and Sanger.
In Denton, Cody Smithers, who co-owned Bet the House BBQ, has opened Smithers Smokehouse at 300 E. Hickory St. Alongside standard barbecue plates, the menu carries Bet the House's barbecue egg rolls, stuffed with brisket, coleslaw and mac and cheese.
Nandi's, an Indian restaurant serving biryani and tandoor items, opened Sept. 17 at 508 S. Elm St., Suite 105. Scarvelli's Italian Restaurant, which serves pasta, pizza and cocktails, is now open in Suite 101 at 820 S. Interstate 35E, the former home of Mexican restaurant Milpa.
Cream Bunny Bakery Cafe began serving in September from Suite 111 at 314 E. Hickory St., with pastries, gourmet doughnuts, drinks and breakfast and lunch items. Overworld Collectibles, at 527 N. Elm St., sells video games, comic books and toys and hosts gaming events. Gracent Pediatric Therapy marked its grand opening Sept. 26 at 2459 Fort Worth Drive; the center offers applied behavior analysis therapy for autism, speech therapy and occupational therapy.
In Flower Mound, Jetset Pilates opened at 6101 Long Prairie Road, the franchise's only studio in Denton County for now. The Elephant Lounge, at 890 Parker Square, opened in September with a menu of salads, skewers and pasta.
Lewisville gained a Work Wear Safety store, part of Saf-Gard Safety Shoe Co., in Suite 228 at 1288 W. Main St. It sells work shoes and offers safety programs for workers. In Sanger, a new Panda Express at 1005 N. Stemmons Freeway gave $1,000 to the nonprofit Food for the Soul at its Sept. 28 grand opening.
