The Denton County Master Gardener Association is organizing its inaugural Garden and Nature Expo, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place at the Denton County Administrative Courthouse in Denton and is open to the public at no cost.
This collaboration involves the Texas Master Gardeners, Texas Master Naturalists, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. The expo aims to engage attendees of all ages through more than 70 interactive booths, exhibits, and presentations focused on outdoor discovery. Topics covered include gardening, pollinator attraction, composting, water conservation, and local wildlife.
Several organizations will provide specific activities for children and information for parents. Science with Attitude and 4H groups are expected to lead youth-focused sessions, while Texas Parks and Wildlife representatives will share details about exploring state parks and camping opportunities. The event is described as a chance for families to learn about citizen science and conservation efforts.
In addition to the expo, the association is accepting applications for the Class of 2027 Texas Master Gardener intern program. The application window remains open through Oct. 9 via the dcmga.com website. Prospective interns must participate in an in-person interview as part of the selection process. Because class sizes are limited, not all applicants will be accepted.
The training program offers instruction from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension specialists, county agents, and horticulture experts. Subjects include soils, trees, vegetables, insects, irrigation, plant diseases, native plants, and sustainable gardening practices. Master Gardeners volunteer to share research-based horticultural knowledge with the community, support community gardens, and answer gardening questions.
