A collaboration between The Art Room nonprofit and the Denton County MHMR Center’s Child & Adolescent Center has resulted in a newly decorated space known as the Art Room. Local artists and craftspeople volunteered their labor to create decorations for the facility, which is located at 3835 Morse Street in Denton.
The initiative, titled "Welcoming Spaces," features art installations designed to beautify the waiting room, children’s playroom, and family meeting room. The displays highlight environments from around the world and include elements such as native trees, rocks, animals, crocheted figures, an origami butterfly mobile, and a mood flipboard.
A dedication and open house event will take place on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the center. The gathering is free and will feature remarks from Denton County commissioners and executives from The Art Room. Refreshments will be provided during the celebration.
Jess Pham, senior director of behavioral health services at the Denton County MHMR Center, stated that the organization sought to create a welcoming atmosphere for the youth and families they serve. She noted that the volunteers delivered a bright and safe environment in every hallway and room.
The Art Room described the project’s title as emphasizing that mental health treatment should be a place where individuals feel curious, connected, and accepted. The organization added that the space allows people to learn an emotional language that fosters understanding and promotes healthy relationships with themselves and others.
The project was funded through The Art Room’s North Texas Giving Day campaign, along with gifts from individual and corporate donors. Community members contributed volunteer hours to paint, build, crochet, and fold every element by hand.
