Denton Independent School District has introduced the Honor Card Program, which provides complimentary admission to district athletic competitions and most fine arts performances for veterans and active-duty service members. The initiative was announced on Sept. 14 as a way to express gratitude for the contributions of local military personnel.
The program operates similarly to the Gold Card Program, which the district launched in July to offer free entry to seniors. Both initiatives aim to strengthen ties between the community and extracurricular activities while supporting student athletes and performers. District officials stated that seeing service members at games and concerts demonstrates commitment to something larger than oneself.
Eligible individuals can obtain an Honor Card by visiting the Stephens Building at 1307 North Locust Street. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Applicants must present proof of military service to receive the card. Each person receives one card, which must be shown at event entrances for entry.
There is no fee associated with the Honor Card. Current Gold Card holders who also qualify for military status may choose to exchange their existing card for an Honor Card if they wish.
