Waxahachie travels to Denton on Thursday night for a non-district game against Guyer High School. The contest features two programs that are both ranked in the latest High School On SI Top 25 poll for Texas high school football.
Both squads enter the matchup with perfect 2-0 records. Waxahachie has climbed six positions to reach No. 8 in the state rankings, while Guyer moved up from No. 19 to No. 15.
The Indians opened their season with a 72-14 victory over Ennis. They followed that performance last week with a 27-24 win against Coppell. The team’s offense is led by quarterback Jerry Meyer III, who has committed to play college football at South Carolina. Through two games, Waxahachie has averaged nearly 460 total yards of offense per contest.
Guyer defeated Rockwall-Heath 45-20 in its season opener. The Wildcats then traveled to the northern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex for a 27-9 victory over Melissa. Guyer’s defense has been particularly stout, allowing an average of just 44 yards per game across its first two contests. Key defensive contributor Zane Rowe, who plans to play at Oregon, is part of that unit.
