Waxahachie secured a 44-30 victory over Denton Guyer on Thursday night at C.H. Collins Stadium, with the game ultimately decided by a critical defensive play in the final minutes. Renard Jennings forced a fumble via a strip sack, and Jayvon Moore recovered it to return for a touchdown, sealing the win for the Eagles.
The decisive turnover occurred after Guyer had driven into the red zone with less than two minutes remaining. Mikel Winbush had sacked Guyer quarterback Carter Morgan on the preceding play, setting up the pivotal moment that ended Denton Guyer's scoring threat.
Waxahachie relied heavily on running back Taylen Strange to generate offense. Strange rushed for 192 yards and three touchdowns throughout the contest. His third score came after Demico Zamora intercepted a tipped pass in the fourth quarter, setting up the drive that culminated in Strange’s final touchdown.
Denton Guyer opened the scoring in the first quarter when Bam Moss recovered a fumble and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown. The Guyer defense forced another fumble on the next Waxahachie possession but failed to convert it into points as the Eagles stalled the drive.
Waxahachie responded late in the first quarter with a goal-line plunge by Micah Lewis. Early in the second quarter, Guyer’s Jayden Thomas broke loose for a 60-yard run. Head coach Reed Heim elected to attempt an onside kick following the score, but Waxahachie’s defense prevented recovery and forced a punt.
