Carmello Brooks appeared in court Monday in connection with two criminal cases, one involving an allegation that he assaulted a pregnant person. Nariah Harley, who is connected to that case, told the judge she wants prosecutors to drop it and said police misunderstood what happened.
Harley described an argument last week inside Brooks’ apartment. She said he repeatedly told her to leave, then picked her up and put her outside when she refused. Brooks called police himself, Harley said, because she would not leave.
She also said Brooks is the father of her baby, does not consider herself a victim and wants all charges dismissed so they can move on with their lives.
Attorney Brent Wasserstein said officers’ body-camera recordings captured the encounter, and prosecutors intend to review that video and Brooks’ 911 call. The other case stems from an August dispute in northwest Harris County, where Brooks is accused of damaging a door handle. The incident involved another woman and her sister.
Family members said Brooks and those women attended high school together after growing up in Killeen. Harley is also from Killeen and attends Texas Southern University.
