The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office has charged Jacob Fields, a former safety for TCU, with aggravated assault in connection to an incident that occurred on August 13. The charge was officially filed on September 23, alleging that Fields intentionally or recklessly caused serious bodily injury to teammate Dozie Ezukanma.
The complaint details that Fields is accused of striking Ezukanma in the head and possibly kicking him while he was on the ground. Ezukanma reportedly sustained a concussion and was hospitalized for three days due to a brain bleed following the altercation. Witnesses stated that Fields hit Ezukanma from behind, resulting in the latter losing consciousness.
Following the incident, Fields surrendered to authorities on August 30. He was removed from the TCU football team on August 18. Fields later expressed remorse through a text message sent to Ezukanma.
The altercation reportedly arose from Fields' frustration over his practice performance. His agent, Philip Miller, issued a statement supporting Fields, highlighting the significance of self-defense. Additional details about the incident have not been disclosed.
