Nico Collins will miss the Houston Texans’ Week 2 game against the Cincinnati Bengals, opening a spot for rookie receiver Lewis Bond. KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson, who cited a league source, reported that Collins has a Grade 1 hamstring injury and might also miss Houston’s next game against the Indianapolis Colts. Wilson said the outlook could still change.
Bond’s elevation is Houston’s second standard practice-squad call-up for the Cincinnati game, following veteran safety and special-teams player George Odum. The Texans drafted Bond in the sixth round in 2026, using the 204th overall selection. After releasing him during the cuts to a 53-player roster, Houston brought him back on its practice squad.
The rookie can be elevated two more times before the Texans would have to place him on the 53-man roster or select another player. Kayshon Boutte, Xavier Hutchinson, Jared Wayne and Jaylin Noel are expected to receive opportunities at receiver before Bond.
NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein previously described Bond as having dependable hands and the capacity for contested receptions, while citing questions about his separation against press and man coverage. Zierlein said motion or bunch formations could aid Bond’s role, though the Texans have not provided details on how much he will play against Cincinnati.
