Cole Hutson can play for the Texas Longhorns this season under a temporary injunction issued by Judge Maria Cantu Hexel of Austin's 53rd District Court, sports.yahoo.com reported, citing Chip Brown of Horns247.
The timing comes shortly before Texas' SEC opener against Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, but Hutson's availability for that game remains uncertain. The ruling does not specify when he will take the field. Coach Steve Sarkisian was scheduled to speak with local media on Thursday and could offer an update.
Hutson had been declared ineligible before Texas' Week 2 matchup with Ohio State. On Sept. 7, Sarkisian said an NCAA issue involving Hutson was separate from the court matter and remained under consideration. Texas has continued to get solid play from both guard spots.
Oregon State transfer Dylan Sikorski is starting at left guard after fall-camp expectations favored Western Kentucky transfer Laurence Seymore for the job. Quarterback Arch Manning said Hutson's return to the team had caught him off guard and that he was glad to have him back.
Guard Brandon Baker also called Hutson a leader and positive presence in the locker room who had performed well during camp.
