Triston Hawthorne committed to Houston on Sept. 17, becoming the fourth four-star prospect in the Cougars’ 2027 recruiting class. 247Sports currently rates Houston’s group No. 1 nationally, with all four players inside the site’s top 100.
Hawthorne attends South Jones High School in Ellisville, Mississippi. He is listed at 6 feet 7 inches and 190 pounds, and 247Sports ranks him as Mississippi’s top player. The 247Sports Composite places him No. 15 among power forwards and No. 80 overall in the 2027 class.
Houston was one of three Power Four schools to offer Hawthorne, alongside Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He visited Houston on Aug. 20, followed by visits to Harvard on Sept. 8 and LSU on Sept. 5. The report by Maanav Gupta for si.com says Hawthorne averaged 10.8 rebounds, 4.0 offensive rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game.
His 7-foot-2 wingspan and athleticism aid his rebounding and defense. Offensively, he is less developed but has produced around the rim and from the dunker’s spot, taking most attempts in the paint and making free throws at about a 60% rate. He joins center Derek Daniels and guards Oneal Delancy and Darrell Davis in Houston’s class.
