A three-match losing streak ended the hard way Friday night in Denton. North Texas needed five sets to get past South Florida, winning 20–25, 26–24, 25–19, 22–25, 15–11 at the UNT Volleyball Center on Oct. 9.

The Mean Green had to keep finding answers. After losing the opening set, UNT took the next two, only for the Bulls to force a deciding fifth. North Texas then finished the match rather than letting another close night slip away.

South Florida recorded 19 blocks, but UNT held the visitors to a .142 hitting percentage. That defensive work gave the home side room to recover from its own difficulties at the net.

The victory moved North Texas to 9–7 overall and 2–3 in the American Conference. It also gave Denton fans a different ending from the team’s recent run of defeats.

There is little time to dwell on it. UNT travels to Temple on Sunday, Oct. 11, for an 11 a.m. Central match scheduled for ESPN+.
