Most Denton residents are in the 13th Congressional District, but a slice of the city votes in the neighboring 26th. Texas Legislative Council census tables for the 2025 map count 9,875 of Denton's 139,869 residents, about 7%, inside District 26.

Voters there choose between Republican Rep. Brandon Gill, running for a second term, and Democrat Steven Shook. In a candidate guide, Gill told the Cross Timbers Gazette he will keep "fighting for conservative values." Shook said he would focus on health care and prescription drug costs, rural hospitals and public schools. The Vote-USA directory also lists Libertarian Phil Gray.
