A Halloween puppet double feature is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23, at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios in Denton, with a Rocky Horror-inspired musical on the bill.
The venue’s October calendar pairs “The Rocky Horror Puppet Show” with “The Unsolved Mystery of Ms Patsy Climb.” Doors open at 7 p.m. and performances begin at 8 p.m., according to the event’s Prekindle listing. Admission is restricted to people 18 and older. Rubber Gloves is at 411 E. Sycamore St.
Puppet Bucket’s contribution is described by organizers as an improvised musical about a small-town couple who encounter an unusual group of characters after taking a wrong turn. The venue advertises the evening as live puppetry, distinguishing the performance from a conventional screening of the 1975 movie.
Meat Loaf, who played Eddie in the film, attended North Texas in 1966, according to the university’s account of his life.
UNT’s archives also document decades of campus events built around the movie. In an August retrospective, Special Collections identified a 1978 North Texas Daily announcement as the earliest campus-screening reference its researchers had found. By 1983, midnight audiences at the Lyceum were being encouraged to dress up and bring participation props.
Later campus screenings included costume contests, food drives and fundraising for AIDS Services of North Texas. The university’s Department of Dance and Theatre staged “The Rocky Horror Show” in 2009, adding a theatrical production to the campus history of movie showings.
