North Texas women’s soccer created more shots than Florida Atlantic on Thursday, Oct. 8, but two late goals left the Mean Green with a 2–0 defeat and their first home conference loss of the season.
UNT held a 6–0 shot advantage at halftime at John Hedlund Field at Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium. The final tally was 14–7 in the Mean Green’s favor. Those opportunities did not translate into a goal, and FAU found the breakthrough in the 75th minute after a corner-kick sequence and rebound.
The Owls added a second goal six minutes later on a breakaway as North Texas pressed for an equalizer. A late UNT attempt struck the post, reinforcing the difference between creating chances and converting them on an otherwise competitive night.
The result dropped North Texas to 4–6–3 overall and 0–3–2 in conference play. The soccer team is off this weekend before traveling to Rice for a 7 p.m. game Thursday, Oct. 15. The gap gives UNT several days to prepare for another attempt at its first conference win.
Denton’s next immediate opportunity to watch Mean Green women’s sports comes Friday evening, Oct. 9. UNT volleyball hosts South Florida at the UNT Volleyball Center at 6 p.m. Central, then travels to Temple for an 11 a.m. Central match Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to stream on ESPN+.
