Penguins prevail

Connor Dewar gave Pittsburgh a third-period goal, and Rickard Rakell scored the deciding shootout goal as the Penguins defeated the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Saturday at PPG Paints Arena. Pittsburgh, the home team, improved to 3-2-1 with the victory, while Dallas fell to 2-2-1.

The first two periods ended without a goal from either team. Pittsburgh then opened the scoring in the third when Dewar converted a backhand for his first goal, with Blake Lizotte credited with the assist. The goal put the Penguins ahead 1-0.

Third-period response

Dallas answered in the third period to pull even. Tyler Seguin scored his first goal on a tip-in, assisted by Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen. Seguin's goal made it 1-1, and neither team added a goal in the remainder of regulation.

The score stayed tied through overtime, sending the game to a shootout. Ben Kindel scored for Pittsburgh, followed by Sidney Crosby. Seguin and Wyatt Johnston scored for Dallas, keeping the shootout level before Rakell's wrist shot gave Pittsburgh the deciding tally.

Shootout decides it

The shootout scoring sequence was Kindel, Crosby, Seguin, Johnston and Rakell. Rakell's goal completed Pittsburgh's 3-2 shootout edge and secured the Penguins' 2-1 final-score victory.

Dewar finished with one goal and one point for Pittsburgh, while Lizotte had one assist. Seguin recorded one goal and one point for Dallas, and Heiskanen had one assist. The Penguins finished the game with two total goals, while the Stars had one.

The game was played before an attendance of 18,192. Afterward, Pittsburgh's record stood at 3-2-1 for seven points, and Dallas was 2-2-1 for five points.
