A person sought in connection with a homicide in Plano died after leading law enforcement on a chase through northern Denton County. The pursuit concluded with a crash on Interstate 35, where the suspect was found deceased at the scene.

Valley View Police reported receiving a call around 10 a.m. to assist with a vehicle moving northbound on I-35 toward Cooke County. Officers were informed that the driver was wanted in a Plano murder case. According to the department, a Texas State Trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fired at the trooper and continued to flee.

Plano Police confirmed the vehicle crashed between View Road and Chisam Road, a location situated north of Sanger and south of Valley View. Following the collision, officers surrounded the car, resulting in a standoff. Valley View Police stated that the vehicle caught fire during the incident and that the suspect was later confirmed dead at the scene.

The department did not provide details on how the fire started or the specific cause of death.

Aerial footage captured by Texas Sky Ranger showed the burned-out vehicle and scorched grass in the median. The crash, reported just before 11 a.m. between exits 481 and 482, caused northbound traffic to back up approximately five miles to exit 477. The northbound lanes have since reopened.

The pursuit stemmed from a shooting at a residence on the 1100 block of Lakestream Drive in Plano. Officers responded to the home just after 10 p.m. on Sunday and discovered a person deceased with multiple apparent gunshot wounds. Plano Police stated that the suspect and the victim knew each other.

Other family members were present in the home at the time but were not injured. The victim’s identity is being withheld until all family members have been notified.
