Denton's annual Halloween celebration began Oct. 8, kicking off a month of events and activities that runs through Halloween.

The celebration now carries a state title. In 2025, Texas lawmakers unanimously adopted House Concurrent Resolution 86, which names Denton the Halloween Capital of Texas until 2035 and recognizes 31 Days of Denton Halloween, the October program that has become a draw for out-of-town visitors.

According to the city, the idea took shape in 2024, when a discussion about Christmas decorations grew into a broader plan to give Denton a Halloween identity and a stage for its artists and small businesses.

City figures put first-year attendance at more than 600,000. The count topped 800,000 in 2025, the city said, with people coming from every state and from other countries.

The monthlong lineup includes events for all ages, NBC 5 reported.
