Denton police arrested a 29-year-old woman on charges of driving while intoxicated and causing a collision with property damage. The incident began around 6:47 p.m. when the suspect, traveling eastbound on East McKinney Street, turned left onto northbound North Mayhill Road. According to the police report, she struck a vehicle that was attempting to turn right onto the same street.
The other driver stated he had a red light during the maneuver.
After the initial impact, the suspect did not stop. She collided with a bridge wall on North Mayhill Road and continued driving for approximately three miles. The vehicle eventually broke down at the intersection of Farris Road and Hartlee Field Road.
The caller who reported the crash followed the suspect to this location and identified her as the driver involved in the earlier collision. He requested that hit-and-run charges be filed.
Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect exiting the vehicle and stumbling. The vehicle’s tires had lost their rubber, leaving the metal wheels severely damaged. Officers noted a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech, and dilated, bloodshot eyes.
The suspect admitted to officers that she should not have been driving and stated she began drinking after 5 p.m. She showed officers a bag containing four empty shot glasses. However, she denied hitting the other vehicle, claiming all damage occurred on Farris Road.
