Denton police arrested a 24-year-old man on Sunday following a crash that left two people hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers responded to the scene in the 1400 block of Dallas Drive at approximately 11:12 p.m. after receiving reports of a major collision.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found one vehicle flipped onto its hood in a motel parking lot, located about 100 feet from the roadway. The suspect’s vehicle was situated on the center median of Dallas Drive with significant front-end damage. Police determined that the suspect was traveling southbound when he struck the other vehicle, causing it to leave the road and flip into the adjacent lot.
Medics transported two occupants from the overturned car to a local hospital.
The suspect driver told officers he had recently dropped off a friend after attending a concert. He initially claimed the accident occurred at the intersection of Dallas Drive and Teasley Lane. Later, he stated he was involved in a separate crash at that same location and denied any involvement in the incident where his damaged vehicle was found.
However, officers noted the suspect had red, watery eyes, a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, and impaired balance. He admitted to consuming three beers at the concert and agreed to perform field sobriety tests, during which officers observed signs of intoxication.
Following his arrest, a search of the vehicle revealed a mostly empty bottle of Jim Beam liquor on the passenger floorboard. The suspect declined to consent to a blood draw at the jail. He also told officers he hoped they would identify the person who drove him home, claiming that individual fled the scene before police arrived.
