Rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham will wear the green dot and call the Dallas Cowboys’ defense Sunday against the Washington Commanders, sportingnews.com reported. Coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed the assignment, which gives the third-round pick from Michigan responsibility for relaying defensive communications.
The change follows Dallas’ 28-point defeat by the New York Giants in Week 1, a game in which the Cowboys had difficulty limiting New York’s offense. Defensive coordinator Christian Parker made the adjustment ahead of the NFC East matchup with Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Dallas and Washington each enter the game after losing to division opponents in their openers. The Cowboys’ offense will face Washington’s defense, while Barham’s performance in his new communication role is another focus surrounding the matchup.
