The Dallas Cowboys reportedly signed running back Tyler Goodson on Tuesday after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury requiring surgery, ending Davis' season. The move gives Dallas another running back option, while the team will also be without Davis on special teams.
Goodson, 25, is listed at 5 feet 9 inches and 200 pounds. He spent the last three seasons with Indianapolis, appearing in 33 games and gaining 264 yards on 54 carries, an average of 4.9 yards per attempt. He also played 304 special teams snaps over the previous two seasons.
He began his NFL career with Green Bay as an undrafted free agent in 2023, but was released before joining the Colts. Indianapolis later cut him, and he attended Atlanta's training camp. After the Falcons released him and he cleared waivers, Atlanta added him to its practice squad before Dallas signed him.
Goodson's final Iowa season included 1,151 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He was named to an All-Big Ten team and ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash.
Emari Demercado had taken the No. 2 running back spot against the Giants, rushing twice for 7 yards behind Javonte Williams. Williams had 12 of Dallas' 18 rushing attempts, plus five catches for 35 yards and a touchdown. Israel Abanikanda had been elevated from the practice squad for Week 1, and the report said Goodson's arrival could affect his status.
