Reed Connects in Dominant Win
Marcel Reed orchestrated a comprehensive offensive performance as Texas A&M secured a 48-20 victory over Arizona State at Kyle Field on Saturday. Reed, the Aggies’ quarterback, accounted for all three of his team's first-half scoring drives and added two more touchdowns in the second half to control the tempo from the opening whistle.
The Aggies (2-0) opened the contest with a quick strike, taking an early 7-0 lead on Rueben Owens II’s two-yard touchdown run. Arizona State responded immediately, tying the game at 7-7 when Cutter Boley found Reed Harris for a 21-yard touchdown pass. However, Texas A&M reclaimed control in the second quarter.
Reed connected with Isaiah Horton on a four-yard score to make it 14-7. The Sun Devils (1-1) narrowed the gap before halftime with a Carson Smith 30-yard field goal, making the score 14-10 at the break.
Defense Seals It in Fourth Quarter
The third quarter saw Arizona State chip away at the deficit. A Carson Smith 35-yard field goal brought the Sun Devils within four points at 17-13. The Aggies answered with another Reed-to-Horton connection, this time from 13 yards out, extending their lead to 24-13.
Boley threw a 58-yard touchdown pass to Harris late in the period, cutting the margin to 24-20 heading into the final frame.
The game was decided in the fourth quarter as Texas A&M’s defense generated critical turnovers. Reed completed his third touchdown pass of the day to Mario Craver on a 33-yard strike, pushing the score to 31-20. The Aggies’ defense then capitalized on two interception returns for touchdowns: Marco Jones returned one 55 yards and Julio Humphrey took another 45 yards to the end zone.
