Russell leads Crimson Tide to victory
Keelon Russell was the decisive force in Alabama’s 31-20 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide quarterback completed 19 of 30 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception, to secure the win for the home team.
The performance was enough to overcome a strong start from the Aggies, who relied on a mix of rushing and passing plays to keep the game close through the third quarter. The final score reflected Alabama’s ability to sustain offensive drives in the second half, ultimately pulling away in the fourth period.
Early back-and-forth
The game opened with an immediate score for Alabama when Dijon Lee Jr. returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown, kicked by Conor Talty. Texas A&M responded quickly with a Mario Craver nine-yard pass from Marcel Reed, followed by a 47-yard field goal by Talty to give Alabama a 10-7 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Marcel Reed rushed for a four-yard touchdown to make it 14-10, but Russell connected with Daniel Hill on a three-yard pass to restore the lead. David Olano then kicked a 32-yard field goal to tie the game at 17-17 at halftime.
The third quarter saw Olano add a 25-yard field goal, giving Texas A&M a 20-17 lead heading into the final period.
