Sandell supplies the finish
Tate Sandell’s 47-yard field goal on the final scoring play gave the Oklahoma Sooners a 27-24 victory over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at the Cotton Bowl. Oklahoma, the home team, improved to 3-2, while Texas fell to 4-1.
The kick capped a fourth quarter that featured four scoring plays and three ties. Texas held a 24-17 lead before Oklahoma pulled even on Jermaine Bishop Jr.’s 15-yard touchdown pass from Arch Manning, followed by Gianni Spetic’s kick. Sandell then converted from 47 yards to put the Sooners ahead 27-24.
Fourth-quarter swing
Oklahoma tied the game at 17-17 when Lloyd Avant scored on a 2-yard run, with Sandell adding the kick. Texas answered when Peyton Bowen returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown, and Sandell’s kick made it 24-17.
Avant finished with 10 carries for 72 yards and one touchdown for Oklahoma. John Mateer completed 18 of 26 passes for 155 yards, while Isaiah Sategna III had five receptions for 64 yards.
Texas builds an early lead
Texas scored the only points of the first quarter when Cam Coleman caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Manning and Spetic added the kick, making it 7-0.
