Arizona took an early lead in the third inning when Smith singled to left field, driving in Tawa to make it 1-0. The Diamondbacks extended their advantage in the fifth inning when Langford hit a home run to left center, putting Arizona ahead 2-1.
However, Texas answered immediately with a six-run explosion that shifted the momentum entirely. Starting with Díaz singling to center to score Burger, the Rangers tied the game at 2-2. Jung followed with a single up the middle, scoring Díaz and leaving Seager in scoring position.
Nimmo then doubled to right field, driving in Seager to give Texas its first lead, 3-2. The inning continued with Duran singling to center, which allowed both Jung and Nimno to score, extending the Rangers' advantage to 5-2.
The Diamondbacks managed to get on the board again in the sixth inning when Carroll hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Moreno to make the final score 6-2. Despite the late run, Arizona could not overcome the fifth-inning deficit.
